UN GLOBAL COMPACT

The UN Global Compact (UNGC) is a voluntary initiative launched in 2000, aimed at encouraging businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation. It is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, involving thousands of businesses across various industries, as well as non-business signatories, in over 160 countries.

Through UNGC’s Indonesian network, widely known as Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN), we engaged and challenged ourselves to participate in advancing the development of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Compact is based on ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. Mowilex’s action in joining the UN Global Compact shows our commitment in aligning our operations and strategies with these ten principles and to take actions that advance societal goals, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to address global challenges like poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice.

We actively submit an annual Communication on Progress (COP) report, detailing our efforts to integrate the ten principles into our business strategy and operations, thereby ensuring transparency and accountability.

The UN Global Compact serves not only as a platform for policy dialogue but also as a framework for fostering private-sector engagement and partnership in achieving a more sustainable and inclusive global economy.

SDG INNOVATION AWARD

The SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals is a nine-month professional development program by the UN Global Compact designed to accelerate business innovation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We enrolled two innovator teams who successfully developed groundbreaking projects. Team 1 launched an initiative titled “Cutting Carbon to the Bone: Energy Efficiency Grown,” which focuses on significantly reducing carbon footprints through various energy efficiency strategies. Meanwhile, Team 2 earned the SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals Award for their innovative project, “From Palette to Planet: Painting Our Way to Sustainability at PT. Mowilex.”

On July 25th, 2024, Team 2 achieved fourth place out of the 16 teams participating in this year’s SDGI competition. The top 6 teams were honored at a ceremony in Jakarta, where representatives from the UN and the Indonesian government were present. Team 2 highlighted our public carbon footprint calculator, which raises emission awareness and helps consumers manage their impact, along with the voluntary VOC disclosure labels introduced in 2019 and the 2024 launch of Mowilex Recycled paints. This accomplishment reinforces our role as a leader in the sustainable industry and highlights our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
